Stacey & Jarrod. A Wedding Proposal Caught on Camera.

Stacey & Jarrod. A Wedding Proposal Caught on Camera.

Some couples are just meant to be together and Stacey and Jarrod are indeed one of those couples. During our session, the guys were so comfortable together that I really didn’t need to provide any direction… I simply sat back and captured their lovingly playful interaction. This photo shoot was just one activity of a day packed with pampering that Jarrod has surprised Stacey with as an early birthday present. Little did she know that the day had actually been months in the planning and Jarrod was just about to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him.

I’m not sure who was more nervous, Jarrod or me? He seemed cool as a cucumber, but as time passed I was beginning to wonder if it was going to happen. At one point I thought he had dropped the ring in a mound of fallen leaves and I was bracing for disaster. Thankfully though, that wasn’t the case. The day had been scattered with showers and although we started with a dry patch, it soon started drizzling and as we all became wetter and wetter it seemed like Stacey was about to call an end to the session… and then Jarrod got down on one knee and Stacey started jumping for joy. Soon we were standing in the pouring rain but the couple didn’t even notice. They were too busy celebrating love!

The Sherer Family. A Byron Bay Family Portrait session.

Let me introduce you to the Sherer family, Katrina, Brian, Natalie & Camille, who travelled all the way from California to spend a couple of hours shooting with me in my grand office, commonly known as Byron Bay (they may have come to Australia for other reasons as well, but let’s not let facts get in the way of a good story).

This was such a fun shoot. Not only are the Sherer’s photogenic, but they are also a close-knit group who love spending time together. While Byron Bay once again delivered a perfect afternoon for shooting, it was the Sherer family who made this session such a blast.

Justin Ealand. Byron Bay Portrait Photography.

This is Justin… fellow photographer, creative, father, husband, deep thinker and mountain lover. Earlier this week, Justin visited my humble little studio in Bangalow to have his portrait taken. It’s quite an experience taking another photographer’s portrait… especially one that I respect and admire as much as I do Justin.

I have had the privilege of photographing many other photographer’s weddings, but this was the first time having one in a more intimate studio setting. It was also the very first time Justin had had his portrait taken in a studio environment, so I think neither of us were 100% sure of what to expect. But as we started, the shoot felt like a very comfortable and natural experience and it became somewhat a collaborative effort. Justin was happy for me to experiment with lighting setups that I hadn’t tried before and just juggle and fine tune things throughout the session. The final result was a rather dodgy-looking, but very effective lighting schematic that was used for the image above and the ones at the end of this post.

Thanks for the experience Justin.

This was the second day in a row that I’ve had Rhydian Lewis in the studio. This time, he needed some urgent images for a new show he is putting together with Greg Aspeling & Sebastiaan Scholtens. The guys required individual shots as well as a group shot. To work in with everyone’s schedules, we had a very limited timeframe to work within. Each of the guys spent around 5 minutes individually in front of the camera and about another 5 minutes for the group shot. The images were edited and turned around just a few hours after the studio session….  what a day!

Rhydian Lewis is a local actor, model, crooner, entertainer and all round nice guy. I have had the pleasure of working with Rhydian on numerous occasions (including shooting his wedding), and he is always an absolute joy to work with…  a true professional! Recently he was in the market for some new actor’s headshots for his portfolio, so he popped over to the studio and we captured these images on the street in front of my studio.

Claire & Christian. A Brisbane Engagement Session.

Last week I met up with Claire and Christian while I was in Brisbane to shoot their engagement session. These guys are getting married next month in Fingal Head, and it was so nice to be able to spend a little time with them before the big day… which will be here in no time!

We spent the afternoon strolling along the coastline around Manly and Wynnum. Christian grew up in Manly, so the place holds a special place in his heart. We were blessed with a simply magical afternoon. The twilight skies looked like they were carefully brushed on by a colour-loving artist. It was simply stunning!
