Portraits
What is a portrait? I know that it's not a happy snap, I know that it should be more than a frozen grin, or high lights and big hair.
A portrait is an expression of a person, their character captured for all time.
A true portrait reveals the person or people before the camera, and not just what the person behind the camera wants to show.
It should really show the subject as they would want to be remembered, in their environment, with people they love, doing something they would always be associated with.

Art & Fashion
There is a fine line between fashion and art. Many of the great photographers of the last century were either first at fashion magazines, or went on from the magazines to carve out a niche as art photographers in their own right.
It takes imagination and vision to truly deliver a great fashion shot that can stand alone in selling the product. The pictures should push the boundaries and stand out as an image in its own right and of course a great portrait can be an artwork in its own right too!
The examples shown in the photo gallery are from all these worlds - can you tell which are fashion shots and which are the commissioned portraits and art ?

Events
A chance encounter with the editor outside legendary Brisbane dance club 'The Site' led to me becoming Chief Photographer for cutting edge music mag 'The Scene' for most of the '90's. If there was a live music event in Brisbane in that time, chances were that I would be there to cover it!
From the stadium rock of U2, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson to breaking bands and DJs in the clubs and pubs of BrisVegas, I was there to capture it all. Regularly scooping the major papers in getting images out to the people, I was also a preferred photographer for major record labels and venues in the city.
Known for my integrity and ability to get the shots done with a minimum of fuss (and without upsetting the sensibilities of touchy artists), I was rarely at rest in this period. My experiences will soon be documented in the book "Down in Front - Postcards from the Pits".

Sport
I have always loved sport - I have played, coached and officiated it most of my life.
So it was almost a given that at some point I would also be involved in covering it for magazines and newspapers. I have photographed almost every type of sport!
In Brisbane I have photographed the Broncos, the Bullets, State of Origin and Tests as well as local leagues and junior sport.
As always it was/is my ability to be in the right place at the right time that has let me capture many memorable moments.
