Brodie & Will. A Broken Head Wedding.

Brodie & Will. A Broken Head Wedding.

Brodie and Will ventured north to Byron Bay from the ACT for their big day. The boys made a road trip of the journey and spent a leisurely week working their way up the NSW coastline.

The couple relied on Byron Bay Weddings to handle most of the arrangements, and as always, they certainly delivered! The boys prepared for the big event onsite at Barefoot at Broken Head, while the ladies readied themselves at one of the neighboring bungalows.

There was not a cloud in site on this spring morning as Brodie and her bridesmaids made their way down to the dunes off Broken Head beach, to join the rest of the bridal party and a hundred or so family and friends, for an intimate ceremony officiated by Helen Riminac.

After the ceremony, everyone made their way back to Barefoot for plenty of great music, amazing food, heartfelt speeches, hacky-sack and general goodtimes.

As sunset approached, the boys from Byron Wedding Visual, the bridal party and I, all ventured up to the Byron Bay Lighthouse, to make the most of the late afternoon light and the setting sun. Once again, Byron Bay delivered with an incredible sunset… and a simply perfect way to cap off a beautiful day.

I love engagement sessions. They are generally a casual stroll with a fun couple in a really picturesque location. Brodie and Will’s session was no different except that we got to explore a beautiful location we didn’t know existed. As a kid I quite often went to Broken Head and would have explored the tracks throughout all the surrounding bushland, but it has been decades since I ventured very far up the Two Sisters Track, that leads south from Broken Head. During Brodie and Will’s shoot, we kept venturing further and kept discovering beautiful countryside. Couple this with gorgeous weather and an ocean full of playful dolphins, and we were guaranteed to have a wonderful afternoon.

These guys are to be married on the beach in September and I can’t wait to share their special day with them.

Is there anything better than a sunset photo session on the beach when the sky is filled with moody post-storm clouds? Well, I guess there probably is, but right now, nothing comes to mind. Sonya & Jamie travelled to Byron Bay from Sydney for their hinterland wedding and a few days before the wedding, we took to the beach to capture these images. Each of my album packages includes an ‘engagement session’, which is essentially just a trial run of what we’ll be doing together on the wedding day. It’s a great chance for us all to get to know one another better and for me to understand what is and isn’t important to the couple (Oh… and it’s also a great opportunity to show the groom that having professional photos taken isn’t really scary at all). Keep an eye on the blog for Sonya & Jamie’s wedding… coming soon!

Rebecca & Jamie. A Boulder Beach Engagement Session.

Last week, Rebecca, Jamie and I had organised to meet at Ballina’s Shelly Beach for their engagement shoot. When we arrived however, the beach was totally wild. The surf was thrashing around and dumping huge amounts of foam onto the beach. The sky was thick with salt and sand, and all-in-all it just didn’t seem like what any of us had in mind.

We decided instead to take a short drive to Boulder Beach and the comparison was incredible. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions at this well protected little cove. The new location also brought back some old memories. Four years ago I shot Rebecca’s good friend Kaila’s wedding nearby and we came to this very same location for the couple’s creative shoot.

These guys were such fun to shoot and I can’t wait for the big day in September!

Renee & Liam. A Byron Bay Engagement Session.

What an incredible day I had yesterday. It started with a sunrise balloon flight across the Byron hinterland and ended on the beach with Renee and Liam, shooting their engagement session. These guys were so much fun during the shoot. Within a few minutes of firing off my first few frames, dark storm clouds rolled in and with them, plenty of rain. Instead of heading for cover however, Renee and Liam were happy to keep on with the shoot, and I am so glad they did!

The stormy weather had also created a rather unique look to the ocean. Belongil Creek was emptying into the sea and the dark teatree-stained water filled the first twenty metres or so of surf. By the end of the shoot we were all saturated, but laughing all the way back to the cars. Thanks so much for being such get sports guys… I can’t wait for your big day!
