Di & Don. A Yamba Wedding.

yamba wedding photography

It was a cold, wet drive down to Yamba on Saturday and when I arrived I could tell everyone was thinking the same thing… “How do we save a backyard wedding from torrential rain?” A last minute marquee was organised, but even that wasn’t going to hold up if the rain and wind didn’t die down. Thankfully, as has been the case with many weddings this season, just before the ceremony, the clouds parted and gave way to a beautiful afternoon.

Di and Don’s canal-sided backyard was the perfect location for this intimate wedding. Di had organised some incredible details including flowers and bouquets made of various ginger flowers. They were simply stunning! Many of Di and Don’s family had travelled from the far reaches of the earth to be at their wedding and it was certainly worth the trip.

This wedding even had its own resident clown. Now I know many weddings tend to have a few clowns by the end of the reception, but this one had a true-to-life one. Di’s son Coen ran away to join the circus several years ago and has been travelling all throughout Europe and North America with Vague de Cirque. His juggling and acrobatics were certainly great crowd pleasers.

Sarah & Justin. Broken Head Engagement Session.

broken head photography

Another gorgeous day and another gorgeous couple. Yesterday I met with Sarah and Justin for their engagement session at Broken Head. Being the first day of Daylight Savings and the middle of a long weekend, we didn’t exactly have the secluded beach we were hoping for.  On the flip-side however, it was also grand-final day, so the crowds thinned out as kick-off time drew nearer.

I first met Sarah and Justin at the recent Byron Bay Wedding Fair and they have chosen Figtree Restaurant & Rooms as the venue for their March 2014 wedding. The team at Figtree must certainly be doing something right (as they always do)… about half of the weddings I have booked in for the start of next year are at Figtree. It’s no surprise, Figtree is a beautiful venue with amazing staff. It is going to be a sensational wedding guys!

Erin & Evan. Lennox Head Engagement Session

Yesterday’s engagement session with Erin & Evan was so much fun! Not since the tropical waters of Fiji at Catherine & Troys wedding earlier this year have I ventured into the water to capture an image, but yesterday the weather was so nice I decided I just had to get wet… and I’m so pleased I did. And to even the score, Erin and Evan jumped into the lake for the last shot of the day. What great sports! I think the effort was certainly worth it. I absolutely love the image we made. The couple are silhouetted again the last light of the day, framed by Tea Trees and accompanied by a pair of ducks… I love it!

I am so looking forward to shooting Erin & Evan’s wedding at Figtree Restaurant & Rooms in January. It will be my first wedding of the year and I couldn’t think of a nicer couple to start the year with!

Kate & Magid. A Figtree Wedding, Byron Bay.

What a beautiful wedding! A team of Hollywood producers couldn’t have planned Kate & Magid’s day any better. Firstly, the event was staged at the magnificent Figtree Restaurant & Rooms. The bridesmaids preparations, the ceremony and the reception all took place at Figtree and the staff were sensational during every aspect of the day. The weather was spectacular and we had wildlife in abundance all day. During the family photos, a small rabbit popped over to see what was going on. Just off the coast of the Byron Bay lighthouse, we had numerous whales putting on quite a display during the location shoot and several wallabies down by the beach at Belongil.

They say good things happen to good people, so it is no surprise that this was a truly sensational day… Kate & Magid are two of the nicest, most genuine people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. Congratulations guys! See you when you return from your honeymoon.

Rebecca & Jason. The Abbey Cobaki Wedding

bangalow wedding photographer

Rebecca and Jason’s wedding was simply beautiful! The preparations for both bride and groom were held in stunning locations at The Pocket and Mullumbimby and the venue for the ceremony and reception was divine.

The boys got ready at Jason’s Dads property at The Pocket and I think I may have been a little bit like a kid in a candy store. The property was bursting with picturesque locations to shoot in. Below are just a couple of my favourites.

The girls preparations were in Mullumbimby at Rebecca’s family home and just across the road were two trees that I think framed the bridal portraits and Bec’s family images beautifully.

The Abbey, in the Tweed Heads hinterland village of Cobaki, boasts a gorgeous open-air chapel beside a lake and surrounded by trees and wildlife. The chapel floods with light and is an absolute joy to shoot in. This was my first time shooting a wedding at The Abbey, but I’m very happy to say that it won’t be long before I return.
