Last week, Rebecca, Jamie and I had organised to meet at Ballina’s Shelly Beach for their engagement shoot. When we arrived however, the beach was totally wild. The surf was thrashing around and dumping huge amounts of foam onto the beach. The sky was thick with salt and sand, and all-in-all it just didn’t seem like what any of us had in mind.
We decided instead to take a short drive to Boulder Beach and the comparison was incredible. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions at this well protected little cove. The new location also brought back some old memories. Four years ago I shot Rebecca’s good friend Kaila’s wedding nearby and we came to this very same location for the couple’s creative shoot.
These guys were such fun to shoot and I can’t wait for the big day in September!

There are some gorgeous little nooks’n’crannies hidden away in the countryside around Byron Bay. For Tess & Tim’s engagement session, we started with a stroll around Tallow Creek, stepping off the general pathway anytime something interesting caught our eye. It’s such a beautiful area it was hard to not to spend all our time off the track. Next we headed off to Broken Head for some fun around the rocks and a splash in the ocean while the sun sank behind the horizon and left us with a sublime backdrop for the couple’s shoot.

I had such a fun day with this beautiful couple. Annie and Denham were married amongst family and friends on Annie’s parent’s macadamia plantation in Alstonville. It had long been a dream of Annie’s to be married on the property and Annie’s parents had spent many months working on the gardens to have the place looking it’s very best… and it looked spectacular! After the garden ceremony, the guests enjoyed a lavish tea party while the bridal party and I visited a rustic old farmhouse on an adjoining property for a fun bridal shoot.
The reception was held back on the family property and we rounded out the day with a wonderful sunset shoot at Boulder Beach. It truly was a gorgeous day from start to finish.

Easter Weekend in the Northern Rivers for the most part was wet… wet, wet, wet. Annie and Denham were up from country Victoria visiting family and had scheduled their engagement shoot for Saturday afternoon, but sadly it was too wet to achieve the kind of sunny beach shots the couple had in mind. On Sunday however, the clouds parted and gave way to an absolutely glorious afternoon. Lennox Head holds a special place in the couple’s hearts, so it was great to be able to shoot in and around Lennox and Boulder Beach.
You’ll see more of Annie and Denham later in the year when they are married on Annie’s family property at Alstonville.

I absolutely love sunset sessions at the beach, and Karmen and Nick’s engagement session was certainly no exception. Karmen and Nick are visiting Australia from Hong Kong and wanted some images to celebrate their engagement but also to capture the essence of their new favourite place, Byron Bay. On a day that started out very overcast and grey, I couldn’t believe the gorgeous afternoon we had to work with. Everything fell into place and the result was a fun, casual shoot in one of the most amazing places on the planet.
The guys are due to be married back in Hong Kong later this year. Karmen and Nick, don’t forget if you have trouble finding a wedding photographer back in Hong Kong, I’m only a nine hour flight away : )
