Kaila & Danny. Lennox Head Engagement Session

From the moment I arrived at the hilltop homestead at the back of Lennox Head, I knew I was in for a fun afternoon. This was Kaila & Danny’s engagement session and their property certainly had no shortage of picturesque spots to shoot in. The guys were so easy-going that it really didn’t feel like work… it was more like having a casual stroll with friends around an amazing piece of land. Some people are just more open to certain things than others and when I asked the guys if they minded laying in the grass, Kaila replied “The cow dung is dry… it’ll dust off easy”. From this point on I knew I was working with a couple that were willing to go the extra mile for the sake of a great image. I can’t wait for the wedding in September

If you are wondering what Danny is pointing at in one of the images below, they were spotting shapes in the clouds, almost oblivious to the fact that we were in the middle of a shoot. For me, it was like being a fly on the wall and witnessing what I imagine would be a slice of life when the cameras aren’t around. As a photographer, it was a really lovely moment.

Tracey & Steven. Roma St Gardens

One great thing about moving to a new studio is… well, we have a new studio, yay! The downside is that moving necessarily entails chaos and, with all good intentions we are running a little behind with the actual work side of things.

But, finally we have unpacked our last box and Rich has all the computers up and running again and so, we are really excited to bring you the first part of Tracey and Steven’s delicious Brisbane Wedding. This is our first ever two part blog, there was just so much we wanted to share with this wedding.

Tracey and Steven are awesome. We know it, everyone at the wedding knew it and we sincerely wish them both the most amazing future together. Here’s Part One – our apologies for the delay.

Rachel & Chris. Evans Head Wedding

I love being a photographer! One of the things I like most, besides the art and craft, is the camaraderie among fellow photographers. Essentially we are all competitors, but you would never guess it. We socialise with one another, we educate one another, we bounce ideas off one another and when one of us needs a hand, there is generally a number of colleagues eager and willing to step up and help out. Such was the case with Rachel and Chris’ wedding.

I received a call a couple of weeks ago from one such photographer in need. Dan from Sol Photography had called looking for someone to take on one of their weddings as his wife Bec had just injured her back and was laid up with a herniated disk… OUCH!! I had another job booked in Lismore which was due to start an hour after this Evans Head wedding was to finish (which for the non-local readers is about a 50 minute drive), but I was more than happy to help out provided everyone was aware of the schedule. Everything was cleared with the bride and groom and so Saturday morning I was off to shoot their wedding.

Rachel and Chris are a great couple and their wedding had it all… rain, tears, laughter, umbrellas, more rain and even a spot of jousting! As fate would have it, the Lismore job was postponed due to illness which freed me up to stay a little longer at the wedding. Saturday was filled with scattered showers and one short torrential downpour… which just happened to occur right at the scheduled ceremony time. The couple decided to wait it out and the delayed ceremony was simply beautiful. Below is just a small sample of what was truly a gorgeous wedding.

Rachel and Chris, I am so pleased I got to spend your special day with you, and Bec, I hope you are back on your feet in no time.

A Fantasy Wedding

We love living in the Northern Rivers. I know, I know… I’ve probably said it all before but, really, this is one of the most beautiful areas in Australia. The beach, the rolling hills – what is not to love about this area? When Rich and I were living in Brisbane he used to always say that he never felt like he was home until he saw a particular stretch of sand down Lennox Head way. Now that I live here I can totally understand what he means. This area just has that effect on you. Even on our busiest days, all it takes is a glimpse of the coastline and I remember why we moved and why we work so hard doing what we do. I guess that is why we enjoy our local bridal shows so much. Not only do we get to meet lots and lots of local brides but we also get to meet other wedding service providers who work really hard to ensure that the Northern Rivers Area is a fantastic place to get married.

Hopefully all those who dropped by the Ballina Bridal Show last weekend were just as impressed by the array of services offered and the quality and passion of the service providers. Let’s face it, getting married is a big financial investment and you want to make sure you are hiring professionals who can deliver on your big day. We’ve all heard the horror wedding stories about things going wrong on the day and I guess that’s what makes a bridal show a great place to shop for your wedding service providers. We can vouch for quite a few of the providers around this area so, if you need any recommendations, feel free to drop us a line.

Here are a few shots taken by Richard at the “fantasy wedding” held on the day. All service providers are listed below.  Big thanks go out to Vicki at the Ballina RSL for hosting and organising such a great event for our area. Thanks also to Ballina RSL staff members Allicia Blyth and Mark Gray who were our Fantasy Wedding bride and groom on the day.

Ballina Bridal Expo TV Commercial

As this year’s Ballina Bridal Expo draws closer, you’ll begin to see the level of marketing activies promoting the event increase. Here is a sneak preview of the television commercial that will start gracing our screens over the coming weeks. It features imagery from three of my recent weddings as well as some shots from local photographer Suze McLeod. Congrats to all my brides that were selected for the advert. Below is a brief synopsis of each wedding.

Featuring:

Louise – the Face of this year’s Ballina Bridal Expo. Louise and James were married in Brisbane on the 24th September 2011. Come and meet Lousie and James at the Expo and discuss their real-life wedding experiences.

Kobie and her Grandma – Kobie and Phil were married at Ballina on the 7th January 2012. A beautiful garden ceremony and the reception all took place at the Ballina Beach Resort.

Philippa and Scott’s Bridal Party – their ceremony took place at St. Bartholomew’s in Alstonville and the reception on Philippa’s family’s property at Rous. This shot was taken amongst the Macadamias on the property.

Don’t forget the expo takes place 9am-4pm Sunday 25th March 2012… see you there!
