Katrina & Craig. A Belongil Wedding.

Katrina & Craig. A Belongil Wedding.

What an incredible day it was for Kate and Craig’s wedding. Craig is a fellow photographer who is kicking all sorts of goals in the photography world at the moment, so it was a huge honour to be entrusted with shooting his wedding.

Kate and Craig met at a Movember charity event a few years back and since then the romance has just gone from strength to strength and last year the guys welcomed their son Leo into the world. Little Leo stole the show at various moments throughout the day, and just like his dad, has an automatic smile cover his face as soon as a camera is pointed towards it.

The couple chose to have an intimate gathering in the parkland behind the dunes at Belongil Beach, officiated by the lovely Kirsty Laing. It was a gorgeous afternoon, and once all the formalities were out of the way, we popped over to The Pass for a quick sunset photo session. Special thanks to another superstar photographer, Benjamin Lynch, for helping capture the ceremony and location shoot.

The reception was held at the Belongil Bistro, where everyone was treated to incredible food, wonderful service and great music by Matt Walker.

Stephanie & Christopher. A Bangalow Engagement Session.

Stephanie & Christopher. A Bangalow Engagement Session.

Stephanie & Christopher are all set to be married at the Moller Pavillion in the Bangalow Showgrounds later this year. Recently, we spent a gorgeous autumn afternoon strolling around the showgrounds and other Bangalow locations, capturing images of the happy couple. As sunset drew close, we headed up to one of my favourite places to shoot, The Point overlooking Byron Bay. It was a beautiful afternoon and a truly lovely way to spend the afternoon. Now I just can’t wait for Steph & Chris’ big day!

Kimberley & Shane. An Elements of Byron Wedding.

Kimberley & Shane. An Elements of Byron Wedding.

Last weekend was truly an emotional weekend for weddings in the Northern Rivers region. The area was hit with the worst flooding in almost 50 years and many couple’s weddings were affected. Roads were cut in all directions which meant wedding guests and suppliers simply weren’t able to reach their destination.

For Kimberley and Shane, several of their guests were trapped north of Byron Bay and the disappointment was obvious. Tears were flowing, stress levels were high, but then at the last minute, while Shane was patiently waiting for his bride-to-be, a group of guests came sprinting across the fields and made it to the ceremony literally seconds before Kim arrived.

Luck it seemed was definitely on Kim and Shane’s side. The clouds parted and the couple were married under the first patch of blue sky I had seen for what seemed like weeks.

This set the tone for the rest of the day. Kim and Shane exchanged vows, with their gorgeous daughter Luella in their arms, at Elements of Byron’s beautiful Heart of the Bay in front of their closest family and friends, to the acoustic tunes of Luke & Sebastian.

The reception was held back at the resort, where everyone enjoyed themselves long into the evening.

Claire & Christian. A Fingal Head Wedding.

Claire & Christian. A Fingal Head Wedding.

Claire and Christian became husband and wife under a rustic arbor and blue skies, overlooking the golden sands of Fingal Head Beach. It was a gorgeous day full of laughter… in fact, I don’t know if the couple realise just how much they laughed throughout the day, which, in my opinion, is the only way to start a life together.

The day started with the boys taking in an early surf before heading back to Peppers Bale Apartments to prepare for the big event. The girls spent a lazy morning in hair and makeup and then readied themselves at a private residence in Kingscliff.

After the ceremony, the bridal party and I wandered up to the point overlooking Cook Island for some location shots where the laughter (and bubbles) continued to flow. Finally, it was onto Babalou at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel for a wonderful reception with incredible food, drinks and live music.

Justin Ealand. Byron Bay Portrait Photography.

Justin Ealand. Byron Bay Portrait Photography.

This is Justin… fellow photographer, creative, father, husband, deep thinker and mountain lover. Earlier this week, Justin visited my humble little studio in Bangalow to have his portrait taken. It’s quite an experience taking another photographer’s portrait… especially one that I respect and admire as much as I do Justin.

I have had the privilege of photographing many other photographer’s weddings, but this was the first time having one in a more intimate studio setting. It was also the very first time Justin had had his portrait taken in a studio environment, so I think neither of us were 100% sure of what to expect. But as we started, the shoot felt like a very comfortable and natural experience and it became somewhat a collaborative effort. Justin was happy for me to experiment with lighting setups that I hadn’t tried before and just juggle and fine tune things throughout the session. The final result was a rather dodgy-looking, but very effective lighting schematic that was used for the image above and the ones at the end of this post.

Thanks for the experience Justin.

This was the second day in a row that I’ve had Rhydian Lewis in the studio. This time, he needed some urgent images for a new show he is putting together with Greg Aspeling & Sebastiaan Scholtens. The guys required individual shots as well as a group shot. To work in with everyone’s schedules, we had a very limited timeframe to work within. Each of the guys spent around 5 minutes individually in front of the camera and about another 5 minutes for the group shot. The images were edited and turned around just a few hours after the studio session….  what a day!

Rhydian Lewis is a local actor, model, crooner, entertainer and all round nice guy. I have had the pleasure of working with Rhydian on numerous occasions (including shooting his wedding), and he is always an absolute joy to work with…  a true professional! Recently he was in the market for some new actor’s headshots for his portfolio, so he popped over to the studio and we captured these images on the street in front of my studio.

Claire & Christian. A Brisbane Engagement Session.

Last week I met up with Claire and Christian while I was in Brisbane to shoot their engagement session. These guys are getting married next month in Fingal Head, and it was so nice to be able to spend a little time with them before the big day… which will be here in no time!

We spent the afternoon strolling along the coastline around Manly and Wynnum. Christian grew up in Manly, so the place holds a special place in his heart. We were blessed with a simply magical afternoon. The twilight skies looked like they were carefully brushed on by a colour-loving artist. It was simply stunning!

Tan & Ant knew exactly what they wanted their wedding day to be… a relaxed gathering of their closest friends and family in a beautiful location with plenty of great food and drinks to ensure everyone had a great afternoon… and that’s exactly what their special day was.

With the couple’s families located mostly in Sydney and Brisbane, Byron Bay made the perfect choice as a location and for their style of day, they couldn’t have picked a better spot than The Secret Garden. Although this venue sits on the main street of Byron Bay, unless you have been there, you wouldn’t know it even existed (hence the name). It provides a private, casual, relaxed environment and is scattered with eclectic artworks and sculptures.

Michelle Shannon delivered a beautiful ceremony, as she always does, and the couple wore enormous grins all the way through. In fact, they both spent a good part of the day laughing as you will see in the images below. It is so nice to see a couple that make one another so very happy and I’m sure their laughter was infectious… everyone, it seemed was having the time of their lives!

Tan & Ant both looked gorgeous, but as stunning as they both were, there were many times throughout the day when they were totally upstaged by their beautiful little girl, Maya. Maya spent much of the ceremony in her parents loving arms, which made me reminisce of my own wedding where I held our daughter Asia for the duration of the ceremony.

I’m sure the couple and all their family and friends kicked on long after I left for the day, and I am just as sure that they are still making one another (and possibly everyone around them) continue to laugh. Congratulations guys!

Jacqueline & Martin. A Bangalow Wedding.

Jacqueline & Martin. A Bangalow Wedding.

Jacqueline & Martin’s wedding day was nothing short of magical. The ceremony and reception all took place at the gorgeous Cedia House, high on the hills surrounding Bangalow, with uninterrupted views that stretch as far as the eye can see. Attending a wedding at a venue like this reminds me not only of why I live in this amazing part of the country, but also, why so many couples travel from all over the world to host their weddings here. We locals truly are blessed.

The couple were joined by an intimate gathering of kids, grandkids, family and friends to witness a beautifully, heartfelt ceremony, officiated by Audrey Fischer.

Once the formalities were out of the way, everybody enjoyed some amazing food, cool drinks and great conversation as we watched what was a beautiful day pass into an equally gorgeous evening.
